Many adults today must face a quickly growing and harsh reality. Most of us are overweight, and getting more so every year. As much as we would like it to, the problem is not going to go away by itself. And despite many promises made by different people trying to sell you something, you are going to have put in some effort on a regular basis to solve this potentially deadly problem.
There are two lifestyle changes that must by employed to combat this. I say lifestyle changes, because if we change for only a short amount of time, changing back to our old ways will only bring back the old problems. We must make change that we can keep for life. For weight issues, we need to adjust the food that we eat, and the physical activity that we do. In this article, I'll be talking about the physical activity.
Most people when starting a weight loss plan, go full force and start an impossible to maintain routine. We join the gym, promise ourselves to go for at least an hour a night. When the stress of maintaining this near impossible task grows to unacceptable levels, we quit in disgust.
In order to get some real, lasting results, we need to change this mind set. We need to get out the "full throttle" mind set and change over to a slow and gradual approach. Think of your ideal exercise, goal, and just plan on achieving it in a few months, instead of tomorrow night. This will give your body much needed time to adjust to the changes.
How do you start? The best exercises are the ones that you can do at home. Don't join that gym just yet. Do a few push ups, maybe a couple sit ups, and some stretches. Maybe take a walk for ten minutes or so after dinner. Remember, so some activity that you can honestly be comfortable doing every day, for the rest of your life.
The big secret with weight loss is that slower is better, and that it is a gradual change in lifestyle, not a one time "diet" that you only temporarily go on. Once you realize this, and give yourself time to take it slow, you'll be amazed how quickly you'll see results.
